PTE Collocations

When you do Fill in the Blanks in the reading section, you will need to have a good understanding of collocations in order to answer the questions.

What are collocations? Collocations are words that often go together. For example, ‘face a challenge’, ‘the general public’, ‘place emphasis’, etc.
Most students find Reading & Writing Fill in the Blanks difficult because they have limited knowledge of common expressions and don’t know how to use them in the given context.

So, what is the best way to study and learn collocations? It is to practise the questions on the MAGIC platform because you can learn new collocations through practice. It’s also a good idea to create your own collocation list and study them again before the test. The more you practise the real questions, the more collocations you will learn.

In the question below, ‘put weight on something’ is also a collocation, and weight means importance here.

Alternatively, you can also refer to Pearson’s Academic Collocation List here. However, it is recommended practising on the MAGIC platform first because it’s more efficient to learn those common expressions.
