What Will Happen On Your Test Day?
An administrator will greet you when you walk into the PTE test centre. They’ll make sure you’re clear on all the rules before you begin.
Once they’ve confirmed your identity, you’ll have a secure spot to store your personal items. Then, the administrator will lead you to your test booth. It’s a small partitioned space with an audio headset, computer, keyboard, chair, notepad, and pencil.
Most test centres have around 10 seats. You might hear other test-takers murmuring from nearby booths, but their microphones won’t catch your voice and vice versa.
Test-takers will use the QWERTY keyboard for the next two hours if they’re taking PTE Academic, PTE Academic UKVI, or PTE Corem, and 30 minutes for the PTE Home test.
Tips for the Day Before the Test
Take a Mock Test
Mock tests will keep you mentally ready for the PTE exam, especially with its duration. We suggest taking as many mock tests as possible before the test day to keep you constantly improving on your performance and time control.
Our PTE Magic platform has all the test questions and mock tests for your preparation. Plus, our online tests will hand over your results in just 5 seconds, so you can have more time to track your progress and adjust your strategy accordingly.
Review Your Notes
When preparing for your PTE exam, remember to take notes frequently. Note down your strengths and weaknesses, along with key information that might be helpful at the last minute. PTE Magic recommends putting them into an Excel sheet to keep them organised for a more effective study.
Creating vocabulary lists with new words or difficult grammar also helps. This will make your progress easier to skim and help you recall faster.
Do Relaxing Activities
Most test-takers think relaxing doesn’t help much for their PTE preparation, but that’s wrong. Your mental health is as important as your studying. Stress will turn into panic and affect your performance if you don’t acknowledge it.
Therefore, take time to relax before the exam. Listening to your favourite songs, going for a walk, chatting with a friend, or watching a funny video can calm you down before the test.
Get Enough Sleep
Don’t push your health limit before the big day. Make sure to eat and sleep well, and keep your mind sharp because you will need to use it constantly for a few hours.
Lack of sleep will make you feel exhausted, which could affect your PTE score. Don’t feel bad about giving yourself some rest the day before. In fact, you need to do this so you can perform your best on the test day.
Tips for the Test Day
Double-Check Your Devices
One crucial aspect that many test-takers don’t pay attention to is checking their equipment. With the PTE test, test-takers will use a computer and a microphone; therefore, checking this equipment beforehand is necessary.
Make sure all your devices are working properly. Since the PTE test involves speaking, pay attention to your microphone. A faulty mic could lead to your answers being recorded incorrectly, which will affect your score badly.
Reach the Test Center Early
Give yourself plenty of time to reach the test centre. Unexpected circumstances might happen, so manage your time well to avoid any unwanted headaches. Rushing to the centre at the last minute will increase your anxiety, which can affect your test performance.
Furthermore, Pearson advises their PTE test-takers to arrive early to complete the check-in process.
Carry Necessary ID
Bringing the necessary documents and ID to the test centre is a must for the PTE exam. A valid passport is a must-have piece for international students planning to take the exam.
Forgetting to bring your ID will prevent you from entering the PTE test centre and sitting for the exam. Therefore, make sure you have your important documents sorted before your big day.
Review the Test Rules
Before entering the test room, test-takers must agree to the PTE Test Taker Rules Agreement. This document mentions the rules and procedures they must follow at the centre while taking the test.
Following the rules is crucial, as ignoring them could cost you money and time. Therefore, make sure to take them seriously.
Stay Alert and Focused
Staying focused throughout the Pearson PTE Academic test is a must for your test result. Don’t drown in past questions that you’ve already answered. This exam takes two hours, so you must spend your time wisely.
However, instead of rushing through all the questions, divide your time across all sections fairly so that you can receive more points for the important tasks. This will help you to perform your best without spending limited time on less valuable questions.
Check Your Answers Before Submitting
PTE Magic advises you to maximise your chances of success by taking a moment to review your answers”. In the PTE exam, every second counts, and you cannot revisit your answers once you’ve moved on.
Skimming back over your responses might reveal a crucial mistake, for example, you swapped two similar-sounding answers.
This review moment can be the difference between a solid score and a missed opportunity. So, use your time wisely to check your answers.
